Monitoring Visit to Malimba Community School, Koya Chiefdom – Port Loko District
On Thursday, 12 February 2026, our team conducted a monitoring visit to Malimba Community School in Koya Chiefdom, Port Loko District, as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting schools and strengthening learning environments in underserved communities.

The visit provided an opportunity to engage directly with school leadership, teachers, and learners; assess classroom delivery; and better understand the realities facing the school community. While we were encouraged by the resilience and dedication of teachers and pupils, we were also confronted with a deeply concerning challenge affecting many girls in the area: the alarming rise in teenage pregnancy.

Community members and school authorities highlighted the growing vulnerability of school-aged girls, including exploitation linked to commercial motorbike riders operating within and around the community. Economic hardship faced by many families, limited supervision, and limited access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health information continue to place young girls at risk. As a result, many are forced to drop out of school, cutting short their educational journey and future aspirations.
Despite these challenges, Malimba Community School continues to stand as a symbol of hope. Teachers remain committed, students remain eager to learn, and the community is willing to collaborate to address these issues.

We call on partners, community leaders, development agencies, and stakeholders to join hands in protecting girls, strengthening safeguarding systems, and investing in initiatives that keep children—especially girls—safe and in school.

Every child deserves a safe and supportive environment to learn and thrive. No girl’s future should be defined by circumstance.
